Climbing District challenged us to think up a new communications medium guided by 3 themes: community, climbing, and urban lifestyle. Our answer: a free-form journal, where these different worlds, complementary yet contrasting, meet.

With a focus on in-house content production, we embarked on an exciting journey of brainstorming, from naming the fanzine—drawing inspiration from the crumbly chalk used by climbers—to generating imaginative ideas for fanzine sections that would resonate with the community.

Immersive Exploration: Uncovering the Climbing Universe

To create CAKE*, we immersed ourselves in Climbing District’s universe, engaging with the team and exploring every corner of their five gyms. This exploration inspired diverse sections such as lost and found, climber portraits, and community classifieds, along with artistic collaborations featuring Capucine Mattiussi and Ivan Pif.
